The Birth Edit

What is a Doula?

A Doula (from the Latin word for 'slave') is a trained professional who supports, nurtures, and advocates for you during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

While some refer to a birth doula as a "professional birthing partner," my role is to enhance your partner's ability to support you, not replace them. I take on the areas they might not be familiar with, like explaining medical terms, advocating for your choices, or simply creating space for privacy and calm.

Postnatally, I’m there to support your transition, whether you're at home or in hospital. Every experience is unique, so I offer tailored support, from breastfeeding assistance to practical help like cooking meals or taking out the bins, allowing you to rest.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to birth and postpartum care, which is why I offer four flexible packages:

  • Complete Birth Journey: This encompasses both the antenatal course and full doula support, providing total help, support and guiance throughout your pregnancy, during the birth and after.
  • Essential Birth Support: Ideal for those who have already taken an antenatal course and only want support during the birth
  • Everything but the Birth: Tailored support during pregnancy and postpartum without in-person birth assistance.
  • Gentle Fourth Trimester Care: All encompassing support after the birth, from expert feeding support to practical help at home

If these options don’t quite fit your needs, I’m always open to creating a bespoke plan just for you!

  • Ongoing support via group WhatsApp, where you can reach me anytime with questions or concerns.
  • 24/7 on-call support starting 10 days before your due date until your baby arrives.
  • Continuous birth support, offering hands-on or hands-off help as needed (e.g., midwife communication, space protection, massage, or advocacy for your choices).
  • Photos/videos of the birth (optional), taken with either an SLR or iPhone.
  • Post-birth support until you're settled, including initial breastfeeding help.
  • Post-birth home visit with food, birth debrief, and ongoing postpartum support, including breastfeeding assistance.
